You are here: Bioinformatics

The Bioinformatics Core Facility (BCF) provides its users at the institutions of Helse Sør-Øst, including Oslo University Hospital, with a range of services within bioinformatics, including

  • High-throughput sequencing data analysis (DNA-seq, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and others)
  • Microarray data analysis
  • Proteomics data analysis
  • Protein structure analysis
  • Pathway analysis
  • Programming/scripting
  • Databases and web services help

The services are also available for the University of Oslo and other institutions as per request and arrangement, and equal preference is given to all Helse Sør-Øst users.

If you have bioinformatics needs, and consider using our services, please contact service leader Ståle Nygård <> or scientific leader Eivind Hovig <>.

The Genomic HyperBrowser

The Bioinformatics core facility take part in the the development of the Genomic HyperBrowser, a software performing statistical analysis of sequence-level genomic information.  The software is built on the Galaxy platform, and is developed to meet the needs from many different users. The paper describing the software is found here. Short introductions and tutorials to the HyperBrowser can be found here.

The BCF is partially funded by Helse Sør-Øst, as well as the pan-European research infrastructure ELIXIR and collaborates closely with the National Bioinformatics Platform.

Pricing is equal for all academic users. Smaller requests (less than two days work) are free of charge. Larger projects require user payment, either through a per hour (750NOK) scheme, or by renting the work of a BCF personnel in an agreed upon full-time equivalent (FTE).
